Several executives and assistants around the NFL believe the Kansas City Chiefs will blow out the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV, according to Mike Freeman of the Bleacher Report.

One NFC assistant doesn't think even a strong defense like the 49ers will have an answer for Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes has been dynamic this year, and each of the last two games he has led the Chiefs to impressive comebacks. Slowing down Mahomes is going to be most important if the 49ers want any chance to come away with a victory.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk thinks the best way to slow down Mahomes is by hitting him hard, even if it means picking up a 15-yard penalty (transcribed by Matt Conner of Fansided).

“You trade the risk of 15 yards if you can send a message. Football is still a physical, violent game. if you can hit him, even if it’s close to the sideline, even if he’s maybe started into his slide, when the championship is riding on it, It hikn it’s a different analysis. Yeah, we may give up 15 yards or half the distance to the goal line…

Advocating for late hits by Florio is a bit irresponsible but it shows just how much of an uphill climb the 49ers might be facing. If the only way the 49ers can beat the Chiefs is by knocking out Mahomes, they might be in some trouble.

The Super Bowl is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 2 in Miami. It will be the first appearance for the Chiefs in the Super Bowl in 50 years.
