Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes already lost a key coach this offseason when quarterbacks coach Mike Kafka bolted the Chiefs to become the new offensive coordinator for the New York Giants. Mahomes could find himself down another coach, as it's unclear if offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy will return for the 2022 season, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Bieniemy's contract is expiring, and Schefter says there's a real chance he's not back in Kansas City:

There are no assurances that Bieniemy will return at this time. He has considered coaching in college, listening to other offers or even taking off a year after a physically and mentally draining season in which the Chiefs fell one game short of the Super Bowl and Bieniemy was bypassed in the latest head-coaching hiring cycle.

The offensive coordinator is set to meet with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid to determine his future with the franchise. Bieniemy has been with Kansas City since 2013 and has been the offensive coordinator the last four seasons. During this four-year span, the Chiefs have won a Super Bowl, lost a Super Bowl and lost in the AFC Championship Game twice. Mahomes has become one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in this offense.

However, Bieniemy has continually been passed over for head coaching jobs, and perhaps he thinks he needs a new opportunity away from the Chiefs to help him get that coveted head coaching role in the NFL. The 52-year-old's meeting with Reid should provide more clarity.
