The Kansas City Chiefs were able to kick off the 2019 NFL season on the right foot with a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1. More importantly, it appears they managed to avoid catastrophe with quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes rolled his ankle after being sacked by defensive end Yannick Ngakoue during the second quarter. According to Nate Taylor of The Athletic, he is not feeling too much the effects from the hit.

“Right now, he feels pretty good,” Andy Reid said of Patrick Mahomes.

This is certainly an encouraging update for the Chiefs. Although he was able to stay in the game, Mahomes was seen limping after the play. Fortunately, the injury does not appear to be too serious which means his status for Week 2 against the Oakland Raiders should remain unchanged.

Expectations are as high as ever for Mahomes following his MVP campaign in 2018. He managed to pick up where he left off by completing 25-of-33 passes for 378 yards and three touchdowns in the 40-26 victory.

Unfortunately, his receiving corps ere dealt a crucial blow with wide receiver Tyreek Hill expected to miss 4-6 weeks after suffering a sternoclavicular joint injury in the season opener. However, he did manage to show quite a rapport with wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who finished with nine receptions for 198 yards and three touchdowns.

Despite the injury to Hill, there are still no shortage of weapons for Mahomes to work with. He will likely continue to rely heavily on Watkins and tight end Travis Kelce in the passing game.
