There used to be a time when Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs looked invincible. They are ways away from that form this season, though. The Chiefs are 5-4, and getting a ticket to the playoffs is no longer a lock for the team that was expected to rule the AFC West prior to the season. There are a handful of reasons why the Chiefs are struggling, and among those is the turnover problem of Mahomes.

But if anyone thinks that he should alter his playing style to cut down on his errors on the field, then don't expect him to adhere to that idea.

Via Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star:

“I mean, I’m gonna take shots,” Mahomes said. “The last few years I’ve take those shots, and they’ve worked. I’ve taken those shots, and they haven’t worked (as well this season), and we’ve still been able to find ways to score points. “Whenever I’ve got a guy with a chance to make a play downfield, I’m going to give him a chance to make a play.”

Through nine weeks of the 2021 NFL regular season, Mahomes already has 10 interceptions, the second-most in the league. Only Carolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold and Cincinnati Bengals signal-caller Joe Burrow have more, with 11 picks each. If anything, Mahomes did not get picked in Week 9's win over the Green Bay Packers at home, which was the first time he was not intercepted since Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns.

Despite Mahomes' turnover issues, the Chiefs have full trust in him to deliver for them going into a crucial stretch of the season. The hope is that Kansas City has finally turned the corner, for real this time, after that win over Green Bay. Up next for the Chiefs is a date with the Las Vegas Raiders this coming Sunday on the road.
