It's been a whirlwind of an evening for Kansas City Chiefs fans, and things don't seem to be getting any better when it comes to the status of starting running back Kareem Hunt.

TMZ released video earlier in the afternoon that showed Hunt assaulting a woman at a Cleveland hotel back in February, which led to the franchise sending him home from the team's facility.

And now, Hunt has officially been placed on the Commissioner's Exempt list, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Shortly after Schefter's report, the NFL released an official statement regarding Hunt's status:

The NFL has placed Kareem Hunt of the Kansas City Chiefs on the Commissioner Exempt list, and as a result, he may not practice, play or attend games. The NFL's investigation, which began immediately following the incident in February, will include a revew of the new information that was made public today.

Hunt has been a big part of the Chiefs' success this season in rushing for 824 yards and seven touchdowns this season while fielding 26 receptions for 378 yards and seven scores.

Obviously, landing on the Commissioner Exempt list puts Hunt's status in question moving forward, as there's no exact time frame when it comes to the NFL's ruling on the matter.

Backup running back Spencer Ware will certainly take on a larger role now due to Hunt's absence.

The Chiefs will hit the road this Sunday as they face off against the Oakland Raiders.

Kansas City currently sits atop the AFC West, but the San Diego Chargers aren't far behind at 8-3 on the season.
