Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has made his first public statement following his contract extension.

Taking it to Twitter, Kelce showed his appreciation to the city for welcoming him and helping him fulfill his dreams.

“I couldn't begin to tell you how much this city means to me,” the Chiefs star wrote. “You took me in seven years ago and made all my dreams come true! I can't wait to give you another six seasons of everything I got when I take the field with my brothers.”

In the same statement, he also affirmed his commitment to help the Kansas City community, especially the underprivileged children.

“I'm also recommitting myself to the work I have left to do off the field,” Kelce added. “The amazing kids I've seen grow up the last seven years in the inner-city of KC are now teenagers navigating a world that doesn't always have their back.”

In an effort to help these inner-city kids, Travis Kelce and Operation Breakthrough are purchasing a building to create what they call “Ignition Lab: Powered by 87&Running.” It will be a place for teens to explore careers in STEM, learn about entrepreneurial ventures, as well as other hands-on skills.

Talking about it in his statement, the Chiefs TE focused on wanting to create a place where kids could feel safe.

“The vision is to give these teens in KC's underserved neighborhoods a safe haven,” Kelce shared. “A place where they're exposed to interests and role models far beyond the field or court. Kids can't concentrate if they don't feel safe. They can't envision a career they've never heard of or learn a skill they've never been taught.”

Kelce's focus on the community is admirable, especially in the current climate. His use of the new four-year, $57.25 million contract to help the community will endear him to Chiefs fans for a long time.
