With the case surrounding Tyreek Hill reopening after ESPN obtained audio regarding Hill and his wife discussing their daughter, Hill’s lawyer is now denying any of the child abuse allegations.

In a letter originally sent to the NFL’s special counsel for investigations Lisa Friel, (via Pro Football Talk) by Hill’s attorney, Trey Pettlon denies the allegations placed on Hill. In a somewhat surprising turn of events, however, Pettlon not only places blame on someone, but points the finger at Crystal Espinal, Hill’s fiancee and mother to their three-year-old son.

According to the letter, Pettlon hints at text messages that Espinal sent to Hill that read, in part, “I hurt [our son]. I’m the one that did it.” Pettlon goes on to confirm that Hill’s voice is the one on the audio that released last week, but refers to it as a “secret recording,” likely aiming to make Espinal look poorly for making it in the first place. Pettlon says in his letter that Espinal didn’t seem terrified of Hill in the audio, although this is also likely a tactic to try and garner sympathy for his client.

Speaking of their three-year-old son – who neither have custody of at the moment – Pettlon confirms that his arm was broken, but claims that the “investigation was closed with nothing about the injury to suggest it was anything but an accident.” While Pettlon goes on to say that the district attorney reviewed all matters in the case and didn’t prosecute either party, it’s important to note that the district attorney does believe some sort of crime was committed.

As authorities try to untangle this web to get to the bottom of it, it’s clear that both parties are trying their best to blame the other. For all those watching from the sides, one can only hope that justice is made for the child, and this is resolved properly.
