Argentina took care of business in their opening match, but it wasn’t without concerns as they entered halftime with a scoreless draw. Regardless, a win for them over Canada and a scoreless draw between Chile and Peru put Argentina in a great spot to guarantee advancement to the knockout stage. Argentina’s chances were never really in doubt anyway, but one more win should put Argentina in the driver’s seat to secure the first seed in the table. The Chileans have always played Argentina tough, with three of their last five games ending in a draw. Argentina won the other two games 2-1. It is time to continue our Copa America odds series with a Chile-Argentina prediction, pick, and how-to-watch.

Chile started well in their opening match against Peru, as Alexis Sanchez had plenty of chances to break the scoreless tie. There were some concerns about Chile’s lack of games leading up to the tournament, but they silenced them with their first-half performance. Unfortunately, Chile fell off in the second half, which could be blamed on the lack of playing time, as the team seemed to tire out.

Canada gave Argentina everything they could handle in the opening game, as the teams entered the first half in a 0-0 deadlock. However, Argentina’s high-powered offense finally broke through in the 49th minute off a goal from Julian Alvarez. Lautaro Martinez added to the lead in the 88th minute to finish the 2-0 victory.

Why Chile Will Win

Chile didn’t do much in their first game to give fans or bettors hope that they can generate enough offense to beat the Argentinians in this matchup. Keeping Argentina off the scoreboard is one thing, but then getting on the board themselves is another. Chile’s defensive backfield can hold up long enough to keep Argentina off the board the way Canada did in the first game, and they’ll need a heroic effort from Victor Davila to find the back of the net. Davila had three shots in the match against Peru before leaving the game in the 65th minute. Davila needs to keep his emotions in check, as he committed three fouls, with one leading to a yellow card.

Why Argentina Will Win

The narrative for Argentina remains, which could lead them to a first-place finish in this group. They can become the second nation to win three consecutive major titles after winning the 2021 Copa America and 2022 World Cup. Messi achieving that goal in his major tournament swansong would likely cement his GOAT status and be a crowning moment for Argentinian football.

Argentina’s 2-0 result over Canada doesn’t tell the complete story. They had 19 shot attempts and nine shots on goal while possessing the ball 65% of the time. They could have won that game by more than two goals, and it’ll be hard for Chile to keep them off the board in this matchup.

Final Chile-Argentina Prediction & Pick

Chile’s offense cannot compete with Argentina in this matchup. Chile’s only chance is to keep a clean sheet and hope for a breakthrough goal. If Argentina gets anywhere near 19 shot attempts again in this game, it’ll be a long night for Chile. The logical bet is Argentina’s money line, as the goalscoring scenarios for betting the total are too much. Argentina could win this game 1-0 if Chile sticks to their defense-first approach, or Chile could press to try and find an equalizer and allow Argentina to run away with this game.
