LOS ANGELES – The LA Clippers were starting to find their rhythm over the last few games, and were hoping to start the All-Star break strong. On Super Bowl Sunday, the team received some concerning news regarding newest acquisition Norman Powell.

The Clippers have announced that guard Norman Powell has suffered a fractured medial sesamoid bone in his left foot. At this time, the treatment is non-surgical, and there's no timetable for his return to play.

Powell suffered the injury with 23 seconds left in the third quarter of the Clippers' game against the Mavericks. He would briefly go to the locker room, but would ultimately play nine minutes and 44 seconds after suffering the injury.

After the game, Norman Powell said he was playing through pain, and would see how he'd feel Friday.

“It was, I think they said, bruised,” Powell said. “I don’t know how to say it, but the bottom of my big toe. The joint. When he came down, like he slammed into it. So it was bruised there. And then I did sprain my right ankle, but I sprain my ankle every game. So I live with those, being bow-legged. That’s nothing.”

He missed Saturday's game vs. the Mavs, and on Super Bowl Sunday, the team announced he'd be out indefinitely with the fractured medial sesamoid bone in his left foot.

It's important to note that the Clippers' press release said, ‘the treatment for Powell is non-surgical at this time.' The keywords there being, ‘at this time,' which means further testing and evaluation could determine that surgery is necessary to repair the injury.

In three games with the Clippers this season, Norman Powell averaged 21 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists on 47.6 percent shooting from the field and 42.9 percent shooting from three.

Kawhi Leonard was seen traveling with the Clippers on their recent road trip to Memphis and Dallas, which is a good sign for the two-time NBA Finals MVP. At this time, there's no update on his return, but rumors have circulated that a return in late March is not out of the question.

As for Paul George, the Clippers star will undergo an MRI after the NBA All-Star break onFebruary 24th, which will likely determine the team's rest-of-season outlook. If George is healthy enough or on track for a return, that could affect Leonard's decision to return, although reports have claimed George's status will not affect Leonard's.

The Clippers have three games remaining against the Golden State Warriors, Phoenix Suns, and Houston Rockets before hitting the 2022 All-Star Break. They'll return to action February 25th against the Los Angeles Lakers.
