At the beginning of January, former NBA forward and current ESPN analyst Matt Barnes said he doesn’t think Darren Collison should sign with Doc Rivers and the Los Angeles Clippers.

Collison is considering a February return to the NBA and the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers are emerging as his two preferred destinations. Barnes, though, said when he and Collison were on the Clippers together, the guard and Rivers didn’t really get along.

However, according to Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report, Collison's prior experience with Rivers would not preclude him from joining the Clippers:

Darren Collison was already a Clipper once, playing 80 games in the 2013-14 season, but league insiders say he and coach Doc Rivers did not part on good terms, presumably making the Lakers his first choice. The source close to Collison, however, says his prior experience with Rivers would not preclude him from rejoining them.

With the Indiana Pacers last season, Collison averaged 11.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 6.0 assists in 76 games. He shot 46.7 percent from the field, 40.7 percent from beyond the arc and 83.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Collison, who played his college ball at UCLA, has career NBA averages of 12.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 708 games with the New Orleans Hornets, Pacers, Dallas Mavericks, Clippers and Sacramento Kings.

The Clippers are 33-15 on the season. They are said to be looking for guard depth. Collison fits that bill, so we'll see if he reunites with Rivers in LA.
