Damwon Gaming (DWG) head coach Kim “kkOma” Jeong-gyun was recently named the “Best Esports Coach” at the 2021 The Game Awards. Now the renowned coach is stepping up to become DWG's Athletic Director, taking on a bigger role for the League of Legends team.

Even before his time on DWG, fans will remember kkOma as truly one of the greats in League history. The esteemed coach famously guided SKT T1 to three World Championships, working closely with legendary player Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok. While Faker has stayed with T1, kkOma had stepped down after T1 had disappointing showings in recent years.

At DWG, kkOma has continuously showcased that he is still one of the best in the game, steering the squad to clinch the 2020 Worlds title.

In the 2021 World Championship, DWG again reached the finals. The LCK side faltered in the end, losing a five-game thriller against China's EDward Gaming. Nevertheless, kkOma and his players still put on a spectacular showing internationally. It capped off another good season where DWG claimed consecutive domestic titles, even defeating T1 for the LCK Summer crown.

kkOma has cemented himself as the winningest coach in League of Legends history. In 2022, he will continue to be in the scene but is now promoted to Athletic Director at DWG. In his new role, he will be overseeing three League rosters: Damwon's main LCK team, the Challengers squad, and the Academy team.

Meanwhile, analyst Yang “Daeny” Dae-in will be taking up the mantle of head coach of the main LCK squad. kkOma, Daeny, and another coach Lee “Zefa” Jae-min will aim to help DWG maintain its dominance in Korea, guiding rising mid and jungle stars Heo “ShowMaker” Su and Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu alongside the new additions to the 2022 roster.
