Now that Dallas Cowboys veteran wide receiver Cole Beasley is heading into free agency, it makes perfect sense for the New England Patriots to make a play for him.

When Beasley was first signed to the NFL in 2012, he was an undrafted free agent. Now, seven years later, he's in the same position, except he's got a lot more experience under his belt.

In the 2013 season, he had the highest completion percentage of any receiver in the NFL with more than 10 targets. His success beginning in 2012 earned him a four-year, $13.6 million contract with the Cowboys, and he continued on with the team quite successfully. Cole Beasley has also had 65 catches for 672 yards, which both ranked second on the team, while scoring three touchdowns in 2018.

But he's also made clear from the beginning of his career that he's always looking for “more opportunity” wherever he goes, and frankly, he may have gone as far as he's going to go with the Cowboys.

That brings us to the Patriots. As has been made clear by longtime head coach Bill Belichick, the team is looking to “build a legacy,” and with a power player like Beasley on their team, that's exactly what they'll continue to do. What's more, the team would allow Beasley to continue to grow, as a player, something that the Cowboys aren't able to do anymore.

New England was searching for wide receiver help last season, even being connected to Green Bay Packers' slot receiver Randall Cobb at the trade deadline. Beasley would offer them a very similar kind of player and another possession weapon for Tom Brady to utilize.

When Cole Beasley's contract officially expires, it's absolutely essential for the New England Patriots to make a fair and reasonable play for him, as someone like him can only continue to build the team's legacy.
