Why Auburn Could Cover the Spread

The Auburn Tigers take their 6-2 record to Kyle Field to play the 6-2 Texas A&M Aggies. Auburn is coming off an impressive 31-20 win against a top-ranked offense in Ole Miss. The Tigers held the Rebels to 6-15 on third-down conversions and forced two turnovers on downs in the fourth quarter, which made this game's difference. The defense stepped up, allowing only 20 points to an offense that ranks 15th in the nation in points per game (37.0). Bo Nix threw for 276 yards and one touchdown while rushing for two touchdowns in the first half.

The Tigers offense is averaging 31.0 points and 440.3 yards per game this season. They have a 2-1 record on the road and have a 3-1 record in conference play. Defensively, the Tigers have been yielding just 19.8 points and 358.8 yards per game to opponents. Auburn is 4-1 against the spread in their last five conference games and 4-0 against the spread in their previous four meetings on the road in Texas A&M.

Why Texas A&M Could Cover the Spread

The Texas A&M Aggies are riding a three-game win streak after sparking it with an upset 41-38 victory against Alabama a few games back. They took care of business last game at home against the South Carolina Gamecocks, winning by a 30-point margin. It has been back-to-back games where the Aggie defense has allowed just two touchdowns to opponents. This defense has been one of the best in the nation this year, ranking third overall in opponent points per game (16.1) and fourth in opponent points per play (0.224). Last week, the Aggies held South Carolina to 185 total yards of offense and forced three turnovers in the victory.

The offense is led by quarterback Zach Calzada who has 1,364 passing yards and twelve touchdowns this season. However, Texas A&M likes to run the ball, ranking 15th in yards per rush (5.4). The Aggies have a solid run duo in Isaiah Spiller and Devon Achane, both with 600 rush yards and five rushing touchdowns on the season. They have had an extra week to prepare and play at home where the Aggies are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games at Kyle Field.

Final Auburn-Texas A&M Prediction & Pick

The Auburn Tigers have just played another formidable opponent while the Aggies have had a week off to prepare for this game. This will be the Tigers' fourth straight game against a ranked opponent. This schedule has to take its toll on their team eventually. Given that the Aggies are home and are 8-3 against the spread in their last eleven games overall, I have to side with them in this matchup. The Texas A&M defense has looked like they are getting better as the season goes on. Lay the points with the Aggies on Saturday.

FINAL AUBURN-TEXAS A&M PREDICTION & PICK: Texas A&M Aggies -4.5 (-110)
