Frank Reich finds himself in a challenging situation in his first stop as an NFL head coach. The Indianapolis Colts are coming off a disappointing 4-12 season and need to plug several holes on both sides of the ball. Owner Jim Irsay and GM Chris Ballard have both acknowledged that the franchise may be a couple years away before they can build up a team that can compete at a high level once again.

However, Reich disagrees with his two bosses and fully believes that he can get his team back to winning ways right off the bat.

“I get that there’s certain positions in the organization where there are different perspectives,” Reich said, via Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star. “And I think it’s mature to be able to say something can be both hands. But as a coach, I’m not both hands. I’m not being paid to [see] both hands. Other guys are being paid to see the rebuilding and have the patience. I’m not being paid for that. There’s not one ounce of me being patient. There’s not one ounce of me that thinks we are in a rebuilding project. Every ounce of me feels that we are winning this year.”

It’s certainly not out of the realm of possibility for the Colts to stage a quick turnaround. The Los Angeles Rams were arguably in a similar situation last year, but then Sean McVay orchestrated a remarkable 180-degree turn to lead them back into the playoffs.

Of course, a lot of the Colts’ success will hinge on the health of quarterback Andrew Luck. When he was at his best, Luck dragged some flawed Colts teams all the way to the playoffs. This time around, it remains to be seen if Luck will be anywhere near his best as he continues to work his way back from shoulder surgery.

But if Reich does have Luck back and playing at a high level, the Colts will at the very least be a competitive team come the new season.
