Indianapolis Colts running back Marlon Mack was injured early in his team's Week 1 NFL game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Though more information is coming in and more tests still need to be conducted, Colts officials fear that Mack has suffered a torn Achilles:

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero had the story first.

In the first half of Sunday's bout with the Jaguars, Mack went down with an apparent ankle injury. Mack would be carted off of the field after being unable to put any weight on his ankle.

The South Florida product will undergo further tests to determine the severity of the injury. Sadly, Indianapolis seems to believe that Mack could have sustained a torn Achilles. Of course, that would sideline him for the rest of the 2020 season.

Before he exited from the game, Mack contributed 56 scrimmage yards while corraling three receptions. With Mack sidelined, the Colts are inclined to insert rookie Jonathan Taylor into the starting offense. At the same time, Nyheim Hines will likely see more opportunities out of the backfield as well.

Mack, a fourth-round pick of the Colts in 2017, is playing in the final year of his rookie contract. Therefore, missing the rest of the season could be detrimental to him getting the contract he was looking to garner. A season ago, Mack posted his first 1,000-yard rushing season and scored eight touchdowns.

There's no doubt that the Colts are hoping that Mack's injury isn't as serious as they believe it is. But while they hope for the best, they're expecting the worst when it comes to his ailment.
