Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle isn't able to practice yet, but he is making some good steps in his recovery from hip surgery.

According to Zak Keefer of the Indianapolis Star, Doyle was back on the field Wednesday running routes at full speed.

Doyle has been rehabbing most of the off-season after having surgery to repair subluxation of the hip that happened early in 2018. Doyle was able to play through that but a scary kidney injury cut his year short.

Doyle is entering a contract year so it's important to him and the team that he is healthy and ready to contribute every week. Last season, Doyle racked up 26 catches for 245 yards and two touchdowns in six games played.

If he can stay healthy and Eric Ebron can continue the success he had last year, this could be one of the best tight end combos in football.

Back in May, Doyle said that he was feeling good but didn't quite have a timetable on when he would be ready to return.

“I feel good. Happy with the progress that I am making. Just slowly coming along, but it’s going in the right direction. (A timetable?) No, I really don’t. I really am trying to take it one day at a time. Not rushing anything.’’

It's unclear if Doyle is going to be cleared by the time training camp starts in mid-July, but this seems like a step in the right direction. If he isn't ready to go by training camp, it shouldn't be long after that he is back on the field.
