Indianapolis Colts rookie wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. has officially been placed on the injured reserved list due to a compartment leg syndrome in his calf, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Schefter also reported that Pittman Jr. will miss at least five weeks due to his injury he suffered on Sunday against the New York Jets. Pittman Jr., who was taken in the second round of this year's draft, suffered his injury in the second quarter of Sunday's win. He was taken out and was initially ruled questionable to return, however, he came back in the second half and finished with three catches for 26 yards.

Pittman Jr. initially didn't really feel the effects of his injury; however, he started feeling symptoms after the game and immediately underwent surgery to relieve the pressure in his leg.

“He had the injury, whatever happens when you get that, but the symptoms don't crop up until later,” Colts head coach Frank Reich said. “Later (Sunday) the symptoms started cropping up in a more severe nature and (Pittman Jr.) called the trainer, the trainer called the doctors, they met right away and determined you have to relieve the pressure.”

In three games this season, the 22-year-old rookie has recorded nine receptions for 73 yards. Although Pittman's stats aren't exactly eye-popping, he has shown signs of promise this season. With Pittman's absence, the Colts are expected to give Ashton Dulin, Daurice Fountain, and Dezmon Patmon more playing time at the receiver position.

The Colts are currently second in the AFC South with a record of 2-1. They'll be seeking to improve to 3-1 as they take on the undefeated Chicago Bears on Sunday.
