The Detroit Lions and quarterback Matthew Stafford have agreed to part ways this offseason, and Stafford appears to have a certain destination in mind.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports Stafford “has his eyes on” a move to the Indianapolis Colts, a team in need of a quarterback following Philip Rivers' retirement.

One NFC executive suggested the Colts will work hard to make a deal work:

“Makes a lot of sense, which is why the Colts will really look into making this work,” the exec stated, per Fowler.

Indianapolis looks like a fairly ideal landing spot for Stafford.

The Colts boast one of the top offensive lines in football, though they will need to fill the hole at left tackle following Anthony Castonzo's retirement. Indy also possesses a balanced rushing attack anchored by Jonathan Taylor, with a number of young and talented wideouts in the passing game. Plus, the Colts have a ton of cap space, meaning they can absorb Stafford while also having the opportunity to add at receiver and (likely) in the secondary.

However, as Fowler notes, the main impediment to a deal could by Indy's draft standing. The Colts have the 21st pick in the 2021 NFL draft, which might not be quite as appealing as other potential suitors like the San Francisco 49ers (No. 12 pick) or New England Patriots (No. 15) pick.

That said, the Lions essentially agreed to work with Matthew Stafford to orchestrate a deal. Perhaps the Colts can capitalize on his interest by getting in the running early.
