For much of the offseason, the Dallas Cowboys were stagnant while other teams flipped players in trades and made key free agent signings. Eventually, they got off the schneid and picked up former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Allen Hurns on a two-year deal.

When the contract became finalized, some members of the media speculated that the signing was made to cushion of the blow of possibly cutting star wideout Dez Bryant. Cowboys Vice President Stephen Jones quickly shut down that notion on Monday, stating that Hurns wasn't signed to replace Bryant while acknowledging the franchise is still considering drafting a wide receiver in the first round.

With the Cowboys now expected to keep Bryant onboard alongside Hurns, the Cowboys' new receiver discussed his excitement to play with #88.

From SiriusXM NFL Radio:

“I am very excited to be in Dallas. They knew what they wanted to do as far as the offensive situation with Dak Prescott being there, Zeke Elliott coming back, and I am excited to play along side Dez Bryant so it is a great opportunity for me.”

After a blistering start to his NFL career, Hurns' numbers have dipped over the last two years. He compiled 115 catches for 1,708 yards and 16 touchdowns in two seasons to start his career with Jacksonville, but he totaled just 74 catches for 961 yards and five touchdowns in 2016 and 2017 while dealing with nagging injuries.

When fully healthy, Hurns was a dynamic weapon for Blake Bortles with the Jags. Dallas is hoping he can find his stride again in an offense buoyed by an outstanding offensive line, one of the best running backs in the NFL in Elliott, and a playmaking number one receiver in Bryant.
