Allen Hurns recently became the second Dallas Cowboys wide receiver after Cole Beasley to point out that they have been doing their job and getting open on their routes. And like Beasley, Hurns wants to make clear that he wasn’t taking a shot at anyone — especially quarterback Dak Prescott — with those comments.

Instead, Hurns clarifies that there are several factors that are contributing to the Cowboys offense’s recent struggles.

“When me and Cole came out and said receivers are getting separation that wasn’t a shot at any one,” Hurns said, via Stefan Stevenson of Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “We just want to let people know that it’s something that goes on across the board. It’s not just Dak making the throw. Sometimes it’s protection issues.

“Sometimes it is him giving us an opportunity and we don’t come down with it. That’s the game of football. Everything is not going to be flawless. Each week you have that faith that you’re going to get things right. Hopefully, you reach that turning point.”

Hurns is likely right that there’s a lot of blame to go around on the Cowboys’ offense. Prescott hasn’t been playing particularly well, and despite getting separation at times, the Cowboys receivers just aren’t making enough plays to make up for it. The Cowboys coaches also need to shoulder responsibility for their disappointing performances thus far.

Obviously, all those things have to get better for the offense to improve. If not, then the Cowboys will struggle to put points on the board for the remainder of the season.
