John Krasinski‘s IF features a stacked cast. Ryan Reynolds headlines the live-action cast along with Cailey Fleming and Alan Kim. The voice cast includes Steve Carell, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Awkwafina, Maya Rudolph, and Bradley Cooper, among more A-listers.
Assembling such a cast was a tall task. But Krasinski said that he got “the most yeses” of his career. This was due to the cast loving the film's concept, as he revealed on his recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“I gotta say, I've had the most yeses of my career [in] this movie and the fastest yeses because they all loved the idea of imagination, going back to your childhood,” Krasinski said.
He then joked about landing Blake Lively, the wife of Ryan Reynolds. Fallon asked if she had come on board because of her husband. Krasinski joked that it was “emotional blackmail”: “I was like, ‘Everybody's doing it,'” he said.
As for George Clooney, who voices a spaceman, Krasinski believes that's his character from Gravity. “This is a sort of deep-cut Easter egg,” Krasinski began, “that that's his character from Gravity in my head, that he's still just floating around.”
What is John Krasinski's IF about?

IF is the latest directorial effort from Krasinski. It follows a young girl, Bea (Cailey Fleming), who gains the ability to see people's imaginary friends (IFs). These imaginary friends have been left behind by their kids after they outgrow them.
However, she's not alone with this ability. Her neighbor, Cal (Ryan Reynolds), has the same ability. Together, they attempt to reunite the imaginary friends with their now-adult friends.
IF features a stacked cast. In addition to the names listed above, the voice cast also includes Louis Gossett Jr., Jon Stewart, Sam Rockwell, Sebastian Maniscalco, Amy Schumer, and Keegan-Michael Key.
The film was written and directed by Krasinski. He will also play Bea's father in the film. Krasinski was also a producer of the film along with Reynolds.
John Krasinski first gained notoriety for his role on NBC's The Office. He played Jim Halpert from 2005-13 on the hit sitcom. He also starred in the likes of Leatherheads, Monsters vs. Aliens, The Muppets, Monsters University, 13 Hours, and DC League of Super-Pets.
Beginning in 2018, Krasinski starred in Prime Video's Jack Ryan series. He starred in four seasons and 30 episodes of the latest Tom Clancy adaptation.
His directing credits
As a filmmaker, Krasinski made his directorial debut in 2009 with Brief Interviews with Hideous Men. It would be several years before his next directorial effort, The Hollars, in 2016. His biggest film to date came in 2018 when he directed A Quiet Place.
The post-apocalyptic horror film starred him along with Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe. A Quiet Place was a box office hit, grossing over $340 million. A sequel was released in 2020 and grossed nearly $200 million.
A prequel film, Day One, will be released in 2024. However, Krasinski is only a producer and also received a story credit for the film. Michael Samoski directed the forthcoming film.
IF will be released on May 17.
