The Dallas Cowboys managed to make a bit of a splash with the acquisition of former Miami Dolphins defensive end Robert Quinn. Their next priority is making sure that a deal dome for defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence as well.

The addition of Quinn provides Dallas with some solid depth on the edge for the 2019 NFL season. Executive vice president Stephen Jones says the team will do what it can to make sure all of their pieces are in order, via the team's official Twitter:

“No, we’re motivated to get this deal done with DeMarcus Lawrence,” Jones said. “He’s obviously a guy who’s been here, home-grown, who plays the game the way we like to see the game played. Obviously, he’s learned under Rod, and he plays the way Rod would like to see a defensive lineman play. He’ll come off that left side, and Robert Quinn coming off the right with Randy, and mixing a few of them down inside, is nothing but a positive for us.”

The Cowboys parted ways with a sixth-round pick in 2020 in exchange for Quinn. There is no question that the veteran is hardly the premier edge rusher he used to be several years ago. Regardless, he was able to enjoy some modest production last season in Miami with 38 tackles and 6.5 sacks. He could provide Dallas with plenty of bang for their buck as part of their edge rotation.

Their biggest concern at the moment is getting a long-term deal done with Lawrence after Dallas franchise-tagged for the second consecutive year. Failing to do so could potentially put them at risk of losing him after next season. The prospect of Lawrence's departure would undoubtedly stunt their plans to compete for a championship in the near future.
