Director George Miller has already been receiving plenty of praise for his latest film, Furiosa, with everyone from critics to even Hideo Kojima sharing their love for the latest trip back to Mad Max's wastelands. Miller has even received praise from within his own cast, namely Chris Hemsworth, which the director teased could lead to more down the road, possibly even within the MCU.

Miller spoke about working on Furiosa alongside Hemsworth with ComicBook when the conversation shifted to the actor's own praise for the director and his own experience portraying the crazed Dementus. The director was then asked if he would work with Hemsworth again, specifically on Thor 5, with Miller responding he'd gladly “work with Chris on anything.”

“I would work with Chris on anything. I really would,” Miller told ComicBook. “He's a wonderful actor. He's got the full range of all the skills. I mean, you've got to be athletic, physically. But, you also gotta be athletic emotionally and intellectually to take on these very, ultimately fairly complex, any role really.

Chris Hemsworth teases a "complicated" villain out of Furiosa's Dementus.

Hemsworth, himself, had previously spoken about his experience on Furiosa with Miller and hope that they would work together again, specifically citing the director's attention to detail as one of his greatest assets.

“What was refreshing working with George is that every frame was thought out,” Hemsworth said. “Every single frame was necessary; it was servicing the whole. It was part of a grander plan and a message, and so there was no waste.”

It remains to be seen if Miller ends up being brought in for Thor 5, which remains without a director after it was confirmed Taika Waititi would not be brought back to direct his third Thor film. If Miller was brought on board, though, it would not be his first go-around within the world of superheroes and comic books.

The League before the League

Back in 2007, long before Furiosa or even Mad Max: Fury Road was a possibility, Miller was hired by WB to direct what would have been the first live action adaptation of the Justice League with the film Justice League: Mortal. It began development the same year with screenwriters Kieran and Michele Mulroney brought on to pen the script, which was reportedly well-received when they submitted their early drafts.

Casting came together quickly, as well, with Armie Hammer set to play Batman, DJ Cotrona as Superman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Adam Brody as The Flash, Hugh Keays-Byrne as Martian Manhunter, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman, and Common as Green Lantern. The cast was rounded out with names including Teresa Palmer, Anton Yelchin, and Jay Baruchel portraying the likes of Talia al Ghul, Wally West, and Maxwell Lord, respectively.

Several sets were reportedly completed, costumes were finished, and some of the cast even took pictures in costume just as the film was heading into production when the 2007-2008 writers strike began. Production ultimately got pushed back further and further, the MCU was taking off, and Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight was a massive hit, putting Justice League: Mortal further on the backburner until it was ultimately cancelled.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is scheduled to release in theaters on May 24, 2024.
