Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked about Jon Gruden's scandalous resignation from the Las Vegas Raiders, and he largely avoided delving deep on the matter, besides vaguely mentioning the concept of accountability.

“I don’t have anything I would want to express one way or the other,” Jones said on his weekly radio show on 105.3 The Fan, when asked if Gruden deserved to lose his job. “From the standpoint of contribution, I know we all are accountable to even a, if you will, fleeting or minor part of our actions. We all are accountable to those. That’s about all I want to comment on that.”

Gruden resigned on Monday after a trove of emails from 2011 through 2018 surfaced in which the now-former Raiders head coach casually used vulgar, racist, homophobic, and sexist language, plus criticized the league's concussion safety efforts.

The NFL, then The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, obtained the emails through an investigation into the workplace culture of the Washington Football Team. Gruden's emails were in correspondence with former WFT general manager Bruce Allen, among others.

The Cowboys owner then seemed to defend the perpetrators of the emails, though it's possible he's talking about the targets, such as Eric Reid, DeMaurice Smith, and Roger Goodell.

“I know these people. I know everybody you’ve been reading about,” Jones added. “They’re outstanding proponents of our game, they have represented this game in many cases beautifully. Certainly we all continue to recognize what a spotlight you’re in and the way we should express ourselves … We’re talking about people here, and even the ones that some of the comments are directed about: those have been outstanding people in the NFL.”

Jones also commented on how evolutions in technology and society have changed the culture at large.

“Daylight and dark. Daylight and dark,” Jones said said. “And just the technology alone, but certainly the expectation has dramatically changed. They were changing from where they were 30 years earlier — 30 years ago. And, so, we just have to just keep your eyes open.”

“The opinion is I wish we could have all things we’re discussing be complete positives. But that’s not life.”

Thanks, Jerry!
