Ezekiel Eliott, believe it or not, wasn't pleased with Jerry Jones publicly making light of his value to the Dallas Cowboys.

Responding to Jones' “Zeke who?” quip following the Cowboys' preseason game on Saturday, Elliott's agent, Rocky Arceneaux, told ESPN's Chris Mortenson that neither he nor the superstar running back found the comment amusing.

“I didn't think it was funny and neither did Zeke — we actually thought it was disrespectful,” Arcenaux said.

Fourth-round pick Tony Pollard continued his strong lead-up to 2019 on Saturday, rushing five times for 42 yards and a score in Dallas' 14-10 win over the Los Angeles Rams. Jones subsequently answered a question about Elliott's status from reporters with “Zeke who?” a nod to both the two-time Pro Bowler's ongoing holdout from the Cowboys and Pollard's impressive showing throughout the offseason, training camp, and the preseason. Jones quickly clarified his remarks after realizing the potential negative fallout, insisting he was merely “cracking a joke at Zeke's expense.”

News of Elliott’s potential holdout amid extension negotiations with team officials first surfaced in the days leading up to training camp. When he didn’t travel on the Cowboys’ charter plane to California last Thursday, it became apparent he planned on leveraging his absence from official preparation for the regular season into a high-dollar extension.

Reports surfaced shortly after training camp began that Elliott and the Cowboys were on the verge of an agreement that would make him the highest-paid running back in football. They were squashed shortly thereafter, though, and there's been nothing in the interim to suggest the sides are close to reaching terms on a new contract for the 24-year-old.

Elliott is currently training away from the team in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico at what Arcenaux calls “a great facility.”
