Dallas Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones recently hinted at possible interest in signing former New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker for the remainder of the 2020 NFL season. Despite the vague answer, Jones' statement could be seen as a possibility to get a signing done in the near future, per The Athletic‘s Jon Machota.

Judge for yourself:

The former Georgia product was recently involved in an off-field incident resulting in his arrest on charges of armed robbery and aggravated assault with a firearm in May 2020. Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar was also involved.

DeAndre Baker was placed on the Commissioner's Exempt List on July 27 and was eventually waived by the Giants on Sept. 8. The alleged victims involved in the incident then recanted their testimonies last month, saying that Baker “did not directly or indirectly participate in any robbery or assist in a robbery at the scene or elsewhere.”

On Nov. 16, charges pressed against the cornerback were eventually dropped after lawyer William Dean was arrested for attempted extortion. Baker is now free from all allegations, though it's unclear what his NFL future may be.

Baker tallied 61 total tackles as a rookie for the Giants last season, accounting for 48 solo and 13 assisted along with eight passes defended in 16 games played. The Cowboys have been woeful on defense this season, resulting in a 2-7 record and a dire need to upgrade on that side of the ball.

Notwithstanding his off-field issues, DeAndre Baker can still be an effective contributor, especially for a team with many holes in its defensive rotation like the Cowboys. The coming weeks will see whether team owner Jerry Jones will give an opportunity for Baker to redeem himself and make it back to the league.
