The Dallas Cowboys' biggest fear has come true: Michael Gallup sustained an ACL tear and is now out for the season.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones himself confirmed the news after the medical staff checked the injury early in their contest against the Arizona Cardinals. Gallup hurt his left knee while making an acrobatic catch for the team's first touchdown in the Week 17 game.

According to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, Gallup will still undergo an MRI on Monday to confirm the injury. However, the Cowboys are of the belief it is a tear.

As reported earlier, there were already some concerns that Michael Gallup has an ACL injury given that the team did a Lachman test. The said test is often done for ACL injuries or as a precaution for the possibility of an ACL tear.

True enough, Gallup's injury is severe and he is done for the 2021 campaign.

It was certainly a massive blow for the Cowboys, as they lost another weapon that makes them a threat in the passing game. Not to mention that it has to happen this close to the postseason.

Furthermore, it is undoubtedly a frustrating injury for Gallup after missing eight straight games earlier due to a calf strain he endured in Week 1. He returned in Week 10 and has been a significant contributor for the Cowboys ever since, and just when he's getting his offensive rhythm back, he fell to another injury.

Hopefully, Gallup can recover faster and return in time when the 2022 season begins. For now, what he can only do is focus on his recovery and cheer for the team when they make the playoffs.
