The Dallas Cowboys have had a busy offseason and hope to win the NFC East for the second year in a row. However, many are doubting Ezekiel Elliott's effectiveness in the run game, as Tony Pollard played a sizable role last season. Even so, head coach Mike McCarthy gives fans a reason to be excited about Elliott's abilities.

According to Jon Machota, Mike McCarthy claims Ezekiel Elliott ran 22 miles per hour on Tuesday. Considering the Cowboys' running back has been dealing with a lingering knee injury, it's hard to believe that is true. But hey, maybe Elliott has gone through an extensive program to get back to peak condition?

To put running speed into perspective, the fastest recorded player in the 2021 season was Jonathan Taylor, who ran 22.13 miles per hour on a 67-yard rushing touchdown in Week 15, per Sporting News. This source also has Taylor clocked in at 21.83 miles per hour on a one-yard rush. Not sure how that is possible, so take this information with a grain of salt. Regardless, the fastest players in the NFL typically hit the 22 miles/hour mark during the season. So it is a wild claim from the Cowboys coach to say Elliott ran as fast as he did on Tuesday.

Hopefully, Mike McCarthy isn't fabricating too much, as Dallas could use Ezekiel Elliott in the 2022 season. The Cowboys should be a competitive team, but having a strong rushing attack will carry this franchise a long way. If Elliott can get back to 100 percent health, then this offense is going to be incredibly difficult to stop.

Keep an eye on Ezekiel Elliott and the Cowboys, as this organization is doing everything possible to get back into Super Bowl contention.
