The Dallas Cowboys are trying to get back on track, and they are hoping Mike McCarthy is the man for the job.

The Cowboys hired McCarthy as their new head coach earlier this week, and McCarthy is already prepared to get to work.

“The goal will never change here,” said McCarthy, according to Sam Gannon of KDFW Fox 4. “It’s winning championships, but the expectation is to trust the process.”

Dallas was expected by some to be a darkhorse Super Bowl contender this season and certainly played the part early on, winning each of its first three games in blowout fashion.

However, from that point moving forward, the Cowboys went just 5-8 and missed out on the playoffs, resulting in Dallas parting ways with Jason Garrett after nine-and-a-half seasons.

Garrett won three NFC East division titles and won a couple of playoff games during his tenure with the Cowboys, but Dallas obviously wants more, and McCarthy appears ready to deliver.

McCarthy spent 2019 out of the NFL after being fired by the Green Bay Packers after 12 games in 2018.

The 56-year-old became head coach of the Packers in 2006 and went 125-77-2 during his lengthy tenure in Green Bay, making the playoffs in nine of his first 11 seasons. During that time, the Packers won six NFC North division crowns and captured a Super Bowl title during the 2010 campaign.

However, Green Bay went just 7-9 in 2017, and after going just 4-7-1 through 12 contests in 2018, the Packers decided to fire McCarthy, who also had a tenuous relationship with Aaron Rodgers.
