The Dallas Cowboys technically have Jason Garrett as their head coach. However, by all means, they are looking for a new head coach. They recently began that process by interviewing long-time NFL coaching candidates Mike McCarthy and Marvin Lewis.

According to Jay Glazer of FOX, via R.J. Ochoa of SB Nation, the interview went so well that McCarthy is still in Dallas, as he spent an extra day with Cowboys brass.

Though the interview went well, don't expect the Cowboys to make an immediate hire. Per Glazer, Jerry Jones and Co. could be looking at Mike Zimmer for the position, if the Minnesota Vikings were to fire him. They also want to interview some defensive-minded coaches.

There is also thought that the Cowboys could skip-over seasoned NFL coaches and head straight down to the collegiate ranks. Baylor's Matt Rhule and Oklahoma's Lincoln Riley stand as interesting targets. The same can be said for the recently retired Urban Meyer.

However, the Cowboys continue to interview despite Garrett still technically as their head coach. As Glazer said, “they still have to tell Jason Garrett ‘No, you're gone. We're moving on.' Never seen anything like it.”

If the Cowboys were to add McCarthy, it would be an interesting hire. He certainly has the experience that they could covet, as he spent 13 seasons as the Green Bay Packers' head coach. In the process, he won a Super Bowl and had a 125-77-2 record. Ultimately, however, the Packers fired McCarthy after a 4-7-1 start to the 2018 season.
