The Dallas Cowboys were able to get Aldon Smith reinstated by the NFL after signing him and now they'll be getting another edge rusher back.

According to the NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Randy Gregory has been officially reinstated by the NFL on Friday.

Not long after the 2018 season concluded, Gregory was suspended indefinitely for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. It was Gregory's fourth time being suspended since being selected in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Nevertheless, the Cowboys extended his contract through the 2020 season and have been hoping to get him reinstated. After signing Smith earlier this offseason, Dallas shared that they weren't receiving much communication on Gregory's request to be reinstated.

But after months of waiting, the Cowboys finally received the answer they were hoping for. However, even though he's been reinstated by the league, the Nebraska product won't be able to practice with the team until October, per Pelissero.

Gregory hasn't logged a single snap with the Cowboys since the 2018 season. The last time he suited up for Dallas he produced a career-high six sacks and two forced fumbles.

Throughout the offseason, the Cowboys made a concerted effort to improve their defensive front. Besides Smith, Dallas signed veterans Everson Griffen, Dontari Poe, and Gerald McCoy. McCoy was released by the team though after suffering a season-ending injury in training camp.

For the Cowboys, they'll now have a deep group of edge rushers once Gregory is able to join the team in 2020. With that being said, hopefully the troubled pass rusher is prepared to put his past mistakes behind him after getting yet another chance from the league.
