After failing to reach an agreement on a contract extension during the season, the Dallas Cowboys will likely franchise tag quarterback Dak Prescott, per ESPN's Jenna Laine.

Laine, in a tweet shared on Monday afternoon, predicted Prescott, Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones, Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett will all be franchise tagged by their respective teams this offseason.

Prescott, who was second in the NFL behind Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston is passing yards last season, saw teammates running back Ezekiel Elliott and linebacker Jaylon Smith receive hefty deals during the season, with Prescott's backfield teammate holding out of training camp for his deal.

Prescott was selected by the Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Mississippi State expected to sit behind then-starting signal-caller Tony Romo. However, an early injury to the veteran QB forced the former rookie Prescott lineup the starting offense and he impressed to the degree where he won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

A two-time Pro-Bowler, Prescott's four-year rookie contract expires this offseason and he is set to earn a huge contract from the Cowboys, however, it is to be determined whether the two sides will agree to a long-term deal or not, with all indications pointing to a franchise tag delaying Prescott's unrestricted free agency another year.

Prescott finished 2019 with his best season, throwing 4,902 passing yards on a 65.1 completion percentage, connecting on 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

While the Cowboys will be tied to long-term money with Elliott, Prescott is surely an invaluable part of the team in the future, too.
