UFC president Dana White gave an update on Khamzat Chimaev's future after UFC 268. The welterweight contender has big plans to take over after returning in style at UFC 257.

Dana White was asked at the UFC 268 post-fight conference about Khamzat Chimaev. White confirmed he would be returning before the end of the year.

“Yes,” White answered simply when asked if fans will see Chimaev again in 2021 (quote/transcription via MMAFighting). The UFC boss followed up by adding that matchmakers are “trying to” get a fight finalized, although he didn’t specify an opponent.

Ordinarily, a fighter would not be expected to return with only two months left in the year. Khamzat Chimaev is no ordinary fighter. H booked one of the quickest turnarounds in UFC history after making his debut in 2020.

There are many rumors on what could be next for him. Neil Magny has been calling him out and asking for a UFC fight. Stephen Thompson apparently has a fight booked for December also.

Dana White was asked about Khamzat Chimaev fighting for the title against Kamaru Usman. The UFC president was not on board with that idea.

“I don’t know if Chimaev is ready for that yet,” White said of Usman. “Chimaev just broke into the top 10 by fighting a No. 11 [ranked contender]. It’s a whole other ballgame when you get into the top 10 and you start fighting [No.] 5 and up. He’s one or two fights away from a possible championship.”

It will be interesting to see who gets booked against Khamzat Chimaev before the end of the year.
