The DePaul Blue Demons are often touted as a sleeping giant type of program. That's obviously a farce, as it is closer to being in a coma or even dead than it is to being inches away from relevance. Still, people do care about this program for one reason (Chicago) or another.

Did you know that DePaul currently has two eight graders committed to play for the program? Both Skyy Clark will be joining the program, as will Amari Bailey. Again, they are eighth graders.

What exactly does this mean?

Nothing, if we are being honest. The Blue Demons grabbed these commitments despite knowing the obvious — if both end up being highly touted high school prospects down the road, it is unlikely either will actually play for the program.

Not to mention even more obvious details, such as the fact the coach they currently committed to, Dave Leitao, will almost certainly not be the coach of DePaul by the time the two graduate high school.

What is the point of all of this? Now, here is where it gets tricky.

This is mostly a PR move by the Blue Demons. It is calculated offers to kids they know won't actually play for the school, but they are hoping the early news of them “committing” is enough to get the fan base excited. In a way, it is like a trailer for a movie about to be released; all hype and without any of the flaws.

DePaul, unfortunately, has all the flaws. While many are hoping its new arena is enough to get it back up and running, it won't… because DePaul.
