The Pro Bowl selection process isn't perfect. Sometimes, outstanding players simply get skipped. According to Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase, that's exactly what happened with offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil. The third-year pro was not chosen as a participant in the Pro Bowl this year, with Tyron Smith, Trent Williams, and Terron Armstead being selected instead.

“I think he’s the best tackle in football,” Gase said. “I was shocked. Because without him, we can’t do anything. He’s on an island every play, every game. And he knows it. You tell him, ‘This is what we’re doing protection-wise. You’re on your own.’”

There are few true statistical measures of a great offensive tackle, which makes the process difficult. According to Pro-Football-Reference's Approximate Value stat, Tunsil was ranked a six in each of his first two professional seasons. That would make him a slightly above-average left tackle. But this year, he has allowed just 19 pressures in 425 pass-blocking snaps.

Tunsil isn't the only Pro Bowl snub this season. New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara has averaged 4.6 yards per carry this year with 1,487 total yards from scrimmage. Kamara has also found his way into the end zone 16 times for the 12-2 Saints.

The Carolina Panthers also have a running back that should've been considered in Christian McCaffrey. The 22-year-old is close to going over 1,000 rushing yards and is averaging 5.0 yards per carry through 14 games played.

There are other offensive tackles that were deserving of Pro Bowl consideration, too. Those names include Andrew Whitworth of the Los Angeles Rams and Ryan Ramczyk of the Saints.
