Miami Dolphins wide receiver DeVante Parker is still rehabbing his injured hand, but his progress does not appear to be fast enough to get him ready for the team’s season opener, according to Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.

Adam Gase said DeVante Parker is doing conditioning with trainers, but he still can’t catch the ball. He won’t play this week. Right now, Week 1 is up in the air.

Parker hurt his hand when he banged bodies with cornerback Xavien Howard during a practice earlier this month. This is another bad turn in Parker’s fast-dwindling career in the NFL.

The former Louisville Cardinals star has been repeatedly labeled as a breakout candidate, but through three seasons in the league, the wideout has yet to fulfill his once lofty potential. The hope is still relatively high for Parker entering his fourth year, but his injury does him zero favors.

Injuries have been a big bane for Parker, who also missed three games last season with an ankle injury.

The Dolphins don’t have the deepest of wide receiving corps, so they will continue to hope that Parker will eventually get it together and show why he’s worthy of a first-round pick back in 2015.

Last season, Parker recorded 670 receiving yards and just a touchdown on 57 catches. He also averaged a career-low 11.8 yards per reception.
