Dolphins receiver Jakeem Grant is hoping for a big year in 2019. The Dolphins drafted Grant in the sixth round back in 2016, and he's definitely been more successful than many sixth-round picks. But he's also been inconsistent and is coming off a major injury.

Grant is heading into the final year of his rookie deal, and he clearly understands that. The Texas Tech product wants to get paid next offseason, and he knows exactly what he needs to do.

“This is ‘bag’ season for me,” Grant said recently, per Hal Habib of the Palm Beach Post. “I feel like last year I kind of made a big name for myself in the return game. I want to be the best returner in the league. And I want to be one of the top receivers in the league. I’m going to continue to play the best I ever can.”

Grant is right that he made somewhat of a name for himself last season. In the opening game of the 2018 season, he returned a kickoff 102 yards for a touchdown. He also returned a punt for a touchdown later in the season. For the year he averaged 29.7 yards on kickoff returns and 16.3 yards on punt returns, which are both great.

Ideally, for Grant, he'd be used even more on offense too. He was used mostly as a gadget player under Adam Gase, but Gase is gone now. Hopefully, for Grant, he can convince new head coach Brian Flores to use him as a receiver more.

He showed flashes of big-play ability on the occasional screen pass and finished with 21 receptions for 268 yards and two touchdowns. Grant suffered a lower leg injury which limited him to just ten games last season, and he underwent surgery on it.

That being said, it apparently wasn't a torn Achilles as was initially feared, and he should be ready to roll by Week 1. The Dolphins kept him out of the offseason program, but it doesn't sound like his injury has affected his confidence at all.
