The Philadelphia Eagles are entering the 2019 season as one of the prohibitive favorites to win the NFC. Over the past few seasons, Doug Pederson and Howie Roseman have turned the Eagles into an instant contender by building one of the deepest rosters in the NFL.

Just two years ago, the Eagles hoisted their first Lombardi trophy in franchise history. However, the quarterback who led them there was none other than Nick Foles. Now, Foles took his talents near South Beach with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

With Foles departing in free agency, the Eagles will be moving forward with Carson Wentz as their franchise quarterback. The only thing that has stopped Wentz from becoming one of the NFL's best quarterbacks is injuries.

Despite his injury woes, the Eagles handed him a four-year, $128 million extension to show their commitment to him for the foreseeable future. Aside from Wentz, the offense has a talented group of pass-catchers in Alshon Jeffery, Zach Ertz, and DeSean Jackson. The team also drafted JJ Arcega-Whiteside—who figures to have a role in the offense as well.

Of course, the defense is also loaded with talent, with Fletcher Cox, Malik Jackson, and Malcolm Jenkins making plays. The road to reaching Super Bowl 54 begins on Sunday against the Washington Redskins. Here are three keys to defeating the Redskins in Week 1.

3. Force Turnovers from Case Keenum

The Eagles were in the bottom half of the NFL when it came to turnovers forced in 2018. As a team, they had just 17 total takeaways last year, but their secondary was riddled with injuries.

To begin the season, Philadelphia will get a quarterback in Case Keenum, who has been consistently inconsistent in his career. At one point, Keenum was leading the Minnesota Vikings to an NFC Championship game, but then he was throwing 15 interceptions for the Denver Broncos.

The Eagles are hoping they get the faulty version of Keenum that is prone to turnover the ball. This game can get out of hand rather quickly if Philadelphia can force a few turnovers against the Redskins.

2. Get Jordan Howard/Miles Sanders Involved

The blame and the credit during this season will undoubtedly fall on Wentz since he's the offensive leader. To ease the pressure off of him, Pederson will need to establish Philadelphia's new-look rushing attack.

Earlier this offseason, the Eagles traded for Jordan Howard from the Chicago Bears to improve their backfield. Along with Howard, the team drafted Miles Sanders out of Penn State to pair with the former Bears running back.

By adding both players, it shows that the Eagles want to utilize their running game more this season. On Sunday, Philadelphia will want to balance their offense by getting Howard and Sanders involved.

1. Protect Carson Wentz

After giving Wentz a lucrative extension, the Eagles have committed to him long-term. If they're going to be seeing the end of this deal, they will need to keep Wentz upright this season.

The Eagles offensive line is more than capable of protecting him but Washington's strong suit on defense is their pass rush. In 2018, Washington had 46 sacks as a team (seventh-most in the NFL).

The Redskins have Ryan Kerrigan and rookie Montez Sweat are going to be a formidable duo for the Eagles to begin their season against. Philadelphia will need to keep Wentz's jersey clean on Sunday if they expect to win the game—as expected.
