The long road to recovery continues for Carson Wentz. The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback is still undergoing rehab after tearing his ACL in Week 14 last season. But while he says it’s painful, he seems to be progressing well and that he’s very confident in achieving his goal of being ready by Week 1.

“Rehab has been great. Obviously, it's not fun. It's quite the process. It can be painful some days,” Wentz said on Good Morning Football (per Kevin Patra of NFL.com). “But so far everything is going well. Where I'm at I'm very confident. My goal is to be ready Week 1.”

Wentz has been saying for some time that he expects to be back by Week 1. That seemed like an optimistic viewpoint considering ACL injuries usually take 9-12 months of recovery time. After suffering his knee injury on Dec. 10, he’d be right at that nine-month estimation if he does play in the Eagles’ season-opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 6.

It’s understandable for Wentz to be so eager to get back on the field. He famously missed the team’s run to the Super Bowl due to the injury, so he’s got to make up for lost time. But despite Wentz’s youthful enthusiasm, the Eagles should still be careful and exercise caution when it comes to their franchise quarterback.

Still, Wentz’s optimism remains a promising sign for Philadelphia fans, and he still has time on his side to work himself back into shape in order to meet his goal. And just in case Wentz falls just short, Philly still has Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles waiting in the wings to fill in for the time being.
