Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles had considered retirement after a broken arm and torn ACL ended his 2017 NFL season early. However, he has returned with the desire to potentially make history.

Sproles has long been the quintessential all-purpose back. He said on his official website that he hopes to solidify his place in NFL history by surpassing Oakland Raiders legend Tim Brown in all-purpose yards:

“I also noticed I am currently 8th on the career all-purpose yards list. Now, I doubt I’ll be able to catch #1 on the list, Jerry Rice, but with a couple good runs or a nice return, I should be able to climb past Steve Smith (7th) and Marshall Faulk (6th). It will probably take until about mid-season [maybe a little longer] but I got my eyes set on Tim Brown at #5. The only other players on the list after that are #4 Emmitt Smith, #3 Walter Payton and #2 Brian Mitchell.”

Sproles may have suffered a setback in his endeavor during the injury-riddled 2017 campaign. However, there is good reason to believe he can bounce back with a strong year.

He is currently 19,155 yards for his career. Sproles. needs just 35 yards to surpass both Steve Smith and Marshall Faulk. However, he will need to make sure he stays healthy in order to catch Brown, who sits with 19,682 all-purpose yards. Otherwise, it is certainly possible for a man of his talents.

Prior to last season, the veteran still had plenty of pep in his step after finishing the 2016 campaign with 438 rushing yards, 427 receiving yards, and 243 return yards. Another year like this would give him more than enough to move ahead of Brown. That said, it will be interesting to see if the pint-sized playmaker is able to reach this historic milestone before finally hanging up his cleats.
