The Philadelphia Eagles have grabbed back-to-back wins with backup Nick Foles in the lineup, which has put the Eagles in the position to secure a Wild Card playoff spot despite Pro Bowler Carson Wentz being sidelined with a back injury.

This has seemingly created chatter that the Eagles could potentially look at Foles as their answer under center. Despite that being an external topic of discussion, head coach Doug Pederson has once again voiced support toward Wentz being their future at the position, according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk.

“I think you have to continue to talk,” Pederson said during his press conference. “I don’t think you have to necessarily always go out of your way and make sure that [you communicate that to him]. He understands. He knows the situation he’s in. He’s trying to get healthy. But at the same time, I want him to understand that, hey, he’s our guy. He’s the guy we drafted and moving forward, he’s our quarterback. I don’t have to sit there and keep encouraging; he knows that. But we do have conversation, and I try to encourage him the best I can.”

The root all of this external chatter has stemmed from Wentz's inability to stay healthy over the last couple of seasons as he has proven that he can perform like one of the top quarterbacks in the league. He is now dealing with a back fracture that has forced him to be out of the mix down the stretch of the season for the second straight year.

Meanwhile, Foles has shown that he can be an effective option under center as he seemingly recaptured much of his form from last year's playoffs. He is coming off a stellar outing where he set the franchise single-game record with 471 passing yards along with four touchdown passes in a comeback 32-30 win over the Houston Texans.

Even though the Eagles may continue to find success with Foles under center, it is clear that Wentz is still firmly their long-term future at quarterback.
