Buffalo Bills wide receiver Jordan Matthews has some beef with his old team, the Philadelphia Eagles. Per Vic Carucci of The Buffalo News, Matthews went on SiriusXM NFL Radio and accused the Eagles’ medical staff of “two really bad diagnoses” on his knee and his ankle, which were only discovered by the Bills’ doctors after he was traded to Buffalo and required season-ending surgery in December.

“I think the worst and most frustrating thing about the whole situation was, when I got to Buffalo, I was still dealing with the things that I had to get surgery on,” Matthews said. “But I had two really bad diagnoses on the knee and the ankle, so going into the trade, I thought they were both things that were going to heal on their own. …

“We ended up finding out there were other things that I was dealing with, so the thumb was definitely upsetting, the chest was upsetting. But what’s crazy was when they ended up doing my surgery on my knee, they actually told me that, ‘Man, it’s a good thing that you didn’t play more games, you didn’t practice more, because you needed to come here and get this procedure done as soon as possible.’”

Matthews was clearly not right for most of the year as he dealt with those multiple injuries. He had just 25 catches for 282 yards and a touchdown in 10 games during his debut year with the Bills, which were easily the worst numbers in his career. That’s hardly the season he would’ve wanted to have entering free agency.

But despite that harrowing experience, Matthews considers it all “blessing in disguise” and believes it has not only made him a stronger person but will also make him a better player.

At his best, Matthews has shown he has the potential to be a capable receiver in the league. He fell just three yards shy of 1,000 during his sophomore year in 2015 and also had eight touchdowns for the second straight season. He’ll certainly hope teams believe he can reach that level again now that he’s had those previously undiagnosed leg problems fixed.
