Josh Sweat was drafted in the 4th round of last years draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, but as a rookie, not much was asked of him. He played 68 defensive snaps in nine games last year before being placed on injured reserve.

The Eagles knew that it might take a year or two for Sweat to develop into a good NFL player, but the Eagles have made it clear now that the time has come for him to take the next step forward.

“It’s implied,” Sweat said, via Philly.com. “I know. I don’t need nobody to tell me. But, yeah, it’s definitely implied. You just feel it in the atmosphere. But I’m ready to live up to it.”

Last season Sweat was behind Michael Bennett and Chris Long, but with Long retired and Bennett on the New England Patriots, Sweat has now moved up the depth chart.

Derek Barnett, Brandon Graham, and Vinny Curry are also on the depth chart at defensive end, but the Eagles love to rotate players which means Sweat is going to get a ton of snaps this year.

Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz knows that replacing players is just life, and he doesn't seem too concerned.

“I think it’s business as usual for us,” Schwartz said two weeks ago when asked about replacing Bennett’s and Long’s production. “From our first year here, the next year we lost Connor Barwin and that was a big loss. A lot of leadership and a lot of pass production.

“And then after the Super Bowl, talked about losing a guy like Vinny. So change in the NFL is nothing new.”
