Following Saturday's deadline to trim rosters to 53 players, teams are scrambling to sign players that were just released. According to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Philadelphia Eagles have signed former New York Giants quarterback Kyle Lauletta to their practice squad.

Lauletta was entering his second season with the Giants after New York used their fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft to select him. The Richmond alumn entered training camp in a competition for New York's third-string quarterback spot.

Throughout the preseason, Lauletta threw for 482 yards and four touchdowns in the four games he played in. In the Giants' preseason finale against the New England Patriots, the second-year quarterback led a valiant comeback to win the game 31-29.

Unfortunately, Lauletta's performance in the preseason wasn't enough to earn a roster spot with the Giants. Instead, Lauletta will remain in the NFC East and join the Eagles on their practice squad.

Earlier this preseason, Philadelphia suffered an injury to Nate Sudfeld in their preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans. Sudfeld required surgery on his wrist and is expected to miss some time to begin the regular season.

Thus, the Eagles decided to sign veteran Josh McCown out of retirement. At 40-years old, McCown is expected to be the immediate backup to Carson Wentz.

Nonetheless, with Wentz suffering injuries in the past two seasons, the Eagles would be wise to get as much insurance behind him.

With that being said, there's a good chance that Lauletta spends the entire season on the practice squad.
