The Los Angeles Rams made a splash with the acquisition of former Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey ahead of the trade deadline. It appears the Philadelphia Eagles may have been trying to bring in their next best choice.

There had been plenty of speculation regarding Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson's future with the team. According to Ben Natan of Bleeding Green Nation, the Eagles had attempted to trade wide receiver Nelson Agholor and a first-round pick for Peterson:

The Eagles offered Nelson Agholor and a first-round draft pick in exchange for Arizona’s star cornerback, a source familiar with the Cardinals tells Bleeding Green Nation.

The prospect of bringing in Peterson would have undoubtedly been a huge boost for the Eagles. Although they had been tied to the rumors surrounding Ramsey, it appears the bidding price may have been a bit out of reach for them. However, it is clear that they are adamant about trying to secure a shutdown corner before the trade deadline.

Philadelphia is currently allowing the fourth-most passing yards per game this season (280.2) and have proven rather vulnerable to allowing big plays. Adding either Ramsey or Peterson could have been exactly what they needed to help turn this secondary around, however, it seems Arizona is not ready to part ways with their All-Pro corner just yet.

The Cardinals are currently in the midst of a rebuild that Peterson has not been a part of since being suspended for the first six games of the season.

It will be interesting to see if the Eagles attempt to make another run at him before the deadline passes.
