Now that the contract negotiations between the Los Angeles Chargers and running back Melvin Gordon have seemingly come to a halt, the team has started to gauge the market for a potential trade partner. It appears the Philadelphia Eagles have wasted no time putting in their bid.

According to Albert Breer of The MMQB, the Eagles reportedly offered running back Jordan Howard and a pick swap for Gordon.

Did a little digging around on the Melvin Gordon trade market. To give you an idea of where it is, only offer I came across was from Philly.

In that deal, Jordan Howard would go to LA, the teams would swap mid-round picks, and the Chargers would eat salary. LA obviously said no.

The benchmark for Gordon was set once again after the Dallas Cowboys agreed to make Ezekiel Elliott the highest-paid running back in the NFL with a lucrative six-year, $90 million extension. It seems their fellow NFC East rivals were hoping to secure a franchise running back of their own by putting the offer in to the Chargers, however, reports suggest it did not meet their asking price.

There are rumors swirling that Los Angeles could be looking for a first and fifth-round pick in exchange for Gordon. It is safe to say that any team hoping to pull off a deal will have to be willing to make quite the investment considering the two-time Pro Bowler is also trying to get his payday.

Even if negotiations with the Eagles fell short, the reports indicate that the Chargers have solidified their decision to play the 2019 NFL season without Gordon.
