After narrowly missing out on a Red Bull 1-2, Sergio Perez revealed he had hoped for a better result heading into the F1 Mexican Grand Prix.

With Valtteri Bottas spinning out in turn 1 at the start of the Mexican GP, Perez slotted his Red Bull into third. Though he maintained excellent pace and battled Hamilton for a 2nd place finish towards the dying stages of the race, it was ultimately not meant to be as Perez had to settle for 3rd place.

Perez reveals that even if he loved the fact that he became the first Mexican to finish on the podium at the Mexican GP, it would have been that much sweeter if they secured a Red Bull 1-2.

“So a bit of a shame, because I think we had the pace to finish 1-2 today. Being on the podium at your home grand prix, it’s something very special,” Perez said. “I wanted more, I want to win the race, and obviously to finish 1-2 for the team would have been amazing.”

Had Red Bull pulled off a massive 1-2 finish, it would have catapulted them ahead of Mercedes in the F1 constructors' standings. However, being that they've closed the gap to a singular point, a stellar result in this weekend's Brazil Grand Prix can launch them into first place in the standings.
