One of the most competitive battles in Atlanta Falcons camp is at wide receiver, but one guy who won't be winning a spot on the roster is head coach Dan Quinn.
On Tuesday, Quinn lined up in the backfield and went out for a pass, and everything was going good until he tried to catch it. He only put up one hand to make the catch and it bounced off of his hands.
His fundamentals were subpar at best and hopefully, the wide receivers on the roster don't try to catch like Dan Quinn, or they could be missing out on a roster spot too. He also didn't seem to be going very hard on his route and that is something he really needs to clean up.
The good news for the Falcons is they have guys like Mohamed Sanu, Calvin Ridley, and Julio Jones going out for catches, and all Quinn needs to do is coach the team.
Jones has been practicing with the team even though he doesn't have a new contract, which is different than how others around the league have handed it, like Ezekiel Elliott.
The expectation is a new contract will get done soon, and Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff has said it will make him the highest-paid wideout in the league.
“That’s not a mystery. He will be, we know that,’’ Dimitroff said of Jones being the highest-paid WR. “It’s just a matter of where it’s all going to land. … I think it’s around the corner, of course. And he’ll be happy with what he gets.’’
It should be a fascinating season for the Falcons.
