It is no secret that the Atlanta Falcons boast one of the best backfield tandems in Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman. It appears that the latter may be poised for an increased role in the offense this upcoming season.

Coleman is entering the final year of his rookie contract. As a result, he is expecting a bigger workload this season, via the Falcons' official website:

“They are just going to use me more … lining up out wide and stuff,” Coleman said during organized team activities. “It's going to be pretty fun.”

Head coach Dan Quinn solidified this notion by emphasizing how much touches he wants to give them.

“Now, we want to make sure we are really featuring him and Devonta in as many ways as we can,” coach Dan Quinn said. “Splitting them outside, leaving them in the backfield, the amount of catches and touches that we can get for those guys, we know how explosive they are.”

The plan may be a breath of fresh air for Coleman. As capable as he is, he has largely served as the complementary back to the equally-talented Freeman. That said, this has largely kept his production in check over the past three seasons.

Regardless, he has still managed to make the most out of his touches. He ran for 628 yards and five touchdowns last season while hauling in 27 catches for 299 yards and three touchdowns. Although he may have seen an uptick in his carries, his role in the passing game diminished in the 2017 campaign. It appears Atlanta is not looking to make the same mistake this time.
