Upon signing with the Atlanta Falcons, Todd Gurley has decided to wear No. 21 — the same number that Deion Sanders wore. Despite Gurley likely choosing the number to pay homage to Sanders, the All-Pro running back claims Sanders is upset at him for wearing the same number.

“Prime was hatin’ on me. He told me don’t wear it,” Gurley said in an interview with the radio station 92.9 The Game in Atlanta. “If I was Prime, I wouldn’t want nobody be wearing my number either.”

Back in the 1989 NFL Draft, the Falcons selected Sanders with the No. 5 pick. Even though he spent just five seasons in Atlanta, Sanders became a living legend, scoring seven touchdowns with the Falcons.

While he was one of the best players to ever play for the Falcons, Atlanta is among the franchises that don't retire numbers of former players. That gave Gurley an opportunity to be the next player to wear No. 21 for the Falcons.

During his career with the Los Angeles Rams, Gurley wore No. 30 as he was selected to three Pro Bowls and was a two-time All-Pro. Also, in college, Gurley wore the No. 3 jersey at Georgia.

Given that, it remains to be seen why Gurley chose to wear the No. 21 jersey with the Falcons. Maybe the 25-year-old running back is looking to start fresh after being released by the Rams.

Nevertheless, Sanders doesn't appear to be a fan of Gurley sporting the No. 21 jersey as he once did. However, if Gurley performs well in his first season with the Falcons, Sanders will probably come around to the idea of Gurley wearing his old jersey.
